Abstract: A simultaneous determination method for arsenic (As),lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) in cosmetics by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) was established. The sample was digested by nitric acid-hydrogen peroxide under the assistance of microwave irradiation.Meanwhile, the conditions of ICP-OES were optimized. The method under optimized conditions shows good linearity with the mass concentrations of the three heavy metal ions in range of 0.05-1.20 mg/L.The corresponding linear correlation coefficients for the heavy metals are all 0.999 8 with the spiked recoveries ranging within 90.7%-108.6%,and the relative standard deviation within 0.44%-4.59%(n=6).The limits of detection and quantification of As,Pb and Cd are 0.63,0.30,0.015 mg/kg and 2.1,1.0,0.05 mg/kg,respectively.

Key words: cosmetics, microwave digestion, inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry
