Abstract: Five commercially available cosmetic kits were evaluated by using the standard and modified bovine corneal opacity and permeability (BCOP) test, and the changes of opacity and permeability were compared in different test alternatives, developed a preliminary evaluation method of in vitro bovine corneal multi-exposure.Results show that according to the standard test method, each of five kits tested is non-irritation.On the other hand, the five kits,by the modified test, may cause eye irritation resulted from the various changes of opacity and permeability of the corneas. In conclusion, the modified BCOP test is demonstrated to be an appropriate method for multi-exposure eye irritation assessment of cosmetic kits, which can provide reference for improving product safety.
