Abstract:

An analytical method for determining the content of primary scintillator 2, 5-diphenyloxazole (PPO) in liquid scintillators composed primarily of linear alkylbenzene (LAB) was established using a high-temperature gas chromatograph with a cold column inlet and an external standard quantification method. The results demonstrate excellent linearity for PPO in the concentration range of 0-0.856 g/L, with correlation coefficients R2 > 0.99. The limit of detection of the method is 2.33 μg/L, the limit of quantification is 7.00 μg/L, and the recovery rate ranges from 97.0% to 100.1%. This method is straightforward, high sensitivity and accurate, provides stable results, and yields reliable data. It is suitable for the quantitative analysis of PPO in LAB-based liquid scintillators, offering a robust analytical method for quality control of LAB-formulated liquid scintillation systems.
