Abstract:

The aggregation behavior of a nonionic surfactant, TX-100, in pure EAN and mixed solution of EAN/PEG-200 was investigated by surface tension measurement and NMR. The results indicated that spherical micelles were formed in both systems. With the increase of PEG-200 content in the mixed solvent, the surface tension, critical micelle concentration (cmc) and the size of the formed particles were increased. The cmc of TX-100 in the two systems increased with the increase of temperature. Theoretical calculations showed that the micellization of TX-100 in solution was enthalpy-driven at low temperature, and was entropy-driven at high temperature.
