Abstract: A new kind of surfactant composed of amphiphilic molecules, potassium salt of N-cholesterol formyl glycylglycine (Chol-GG-K) employing cholesterol as the hydrophobic moiety and glycylglycine as the hydrophilic group, was synthesized and characterized. The aggregation behavior of the product in water was investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM).Results indicated that poly dispersive vesicles formed in Chol-GG-K aqueous solution.Besides the van der Waals interaction of cholesterol that forms strong hydrophobic effect and aggregation capacity, the hydrogen bonding of the hydrophilic group is also a driving force for the aggregation.
