Synthesis and performance study of ethoxylated methyl oleate sulfonate

Abstract: The ethoxylated methyl oleate sulfonate (OMEES) was synthesised by one-step sulfonation with sodium bisulfite from ethoxylated methyl oleate (OMEE) as a raw material,and the structure of the synthesized product was confirmed by the saponification value,iodine value,anion content and the infrared spectroscopy.The equilibrium surface tension,dynamic surface tension,dynamic contact angle and the main application performance were measured for OMEES and OMEE.The results show that as the γcmc is 36.3 mN/m,OMEES has slower adsorption rate and less adsorption capacity,and the wettability improves gradually with the increase of the surfactant concentration.The introduction of sulfonic acid groups increases the hydrophilicity of the raw material and enhances its foaming ability.
