CO2-switching responsive performance of N-dodecyl polyoxyethylene (3)-N,N-dimethyl tertiary amine

Abstract: In order to obtain a switchable surfactant that has inorganic salt tolerance,CO2-switching responsive performance of N-dodecyl polyoxyethylene (3)-N,N-dimethyl tertiary amine (C12EO3A),embedded with polyoxyethylene (EO) segment between the long-chain alkyl group and tertiary amino group was investigated.Results from conductivity test and uorescence probe test showed that C12EO3A displays conspicuous CO2-swiching responsive efficacy.Comparing with bicarbonate of N-dodecyl-N,N-dimethyl tertiary amine ([C12AH]+HCO3-),with bicarbonate of C12EO3A ([C12EO3AH]+HCO3-) that has similar structure,critical micelle concentration of the latter is smaller,and shows outstanding surfactant functions even in saturated NaCl aqueous solution.
