Abstract:

The W/O/W multiple emulsion was prepared by using polyglycerol-2-dioleate and decaglycerin monolaurate instead of Span-80 and Tween-80 as W/O and O/W emulsifiers, respectively, and using liquid paraffin as the oil phase. The delamination rate of the emulsion was used as the standard for the stability of the emulsion. The effects of emulsifier type, emulsifier mass fraction and oil-water ratio on the stability of W/O/W multiple emulsion system were discussed. The rheological properties of the emulsion were measured by a rotary rheometer. The effects of fatty alcohols (CmH2m+1OH, m=12, 14, 16, 18, 20) and polymers (xanthan gum, hydroxyethyl cellulose, nucleocapsid) on the rheological properties of W/O/W multiple emulsions were investigated. The results show that the suitable W/O/W multiple emulsions has a superior composition. The primary emulsion (W/O): polyglycerol-2-dioleate has a mass fraction of 10%, and V(liquid paraffin)∶V(water)= 2∶1; W/O/W multiple emulsion: octaglycerol monolaurate mass fraction is 6%, V(primary emulsion)∶ V(water)=9∶10, fatty alcohol (cetyl alcohol) mass fraction is 2%, the high polymer (xanthan gum) mass fraction is 0.15%.
